Description:

Mark Arnett starts "Baby Boomerang" with a simple goal: Make a documentary about World War II for people, like himself, who don't like documentaries. He wants to tell the story of his father's World War II experience to the spoiled, pretentious, and ungrateful baby boomer generation that he belongs to. So, he begins the film in a way that he is sure baby boomers can relate to: he makes the film about himself. Luckily for Mark, the film takes so long in production-fourteen years, to be precise-that by the time he gets to the heart of his father's story, he loses the self-centered vision, and both Mark and the audience get sucked into the compelling events of his father's crash landing in German-occupied Holland, his eleven months as a prisoner of war, and his return home to marry the girl who pinned his wings on him in pilot training. Mark could never seem to get the footage he shot to come together, but when his father passed away, Mark finished the film in a week. While Mark fails to finish the film that he started, he succeeds in drawing us into a very personal story that explores faith, courage, love, and the inescapable fact that, in many ways, we all turn into our parents in the end.

5A Hoot!  Apr 22, 2012

My father was also a bomber pilot during WWII. He would have laughed his butt off at this documentary. Something in it for everyone: WWII vets, baby boomers, X-gen.

I loved it, but I made it, so you might want to read some of the other reviews.

5The best WWII documentary I have ever seen!  Dec 23, 2009
By Scott O'Dell
Baby Boomerang is documentary that focusses on a man's World War II experience. The story is told by Mark Arnett, the son of war hero Charles Arnett. Normally I find documentaries a little slow and not very engaging, but this story pulled me right in. The film details Charles' experience from start to finish, all the while making you want to laugh and cry. Mark shows true film making genius as he pulls this story together to a very heart warming and satisfying ending. If you are curious about the people that kept our freedom alive, or if you personally know someone that did, then this movie is for you. Do yourself a favor and go to [...] and watch it, you'll be glad you did.

5Inspiring and Entertaining!  Dec 22, 2009

Baby Boomerang is a very moving story. I don't usually find documentaries very entertaining but this movie had me laughing at times and crying at others; always engaged. I enjoyed it very much. Baby Boomerang is not like any other documentary that I have ever seen. The way that Mark ties in his own journey of cataloging his father's story is brilliant! Very unique and at times really funny. Never having the chance to meet Charles Arnett in person, I feel like Baby Boomerang gave me a glimpse of what an amazing man he must have been. I think that even though the story obviously means a lot to the Arnett family, anyone who sees this movie will be touched and inspired. Thank you Mark for letting us experience this very personal and inspiring part of your father's life. I would recommend Baby Boomerang to anyone!

5A life changing film for all Baby Boomers.  Oct 11, 2009

I really liked this film. It gave me an understanding of what it must have been like to go through the experience of World War II. Not from a Hollywood made up movie but from real people themselves. It was cleverly entertaining and it left me inspired to be more grateful for the sacrifices of America's true heroes. I highly recommend this film!
