Description:

What happens when you're asked to build the city of tomorrow... today? Set on the storied streets of South Boston, The Greening of Southie is a feature documentary about Boston's first residential green building, and the skeptical workers who are asked to build it. From wheatboard cabinetry to recycled steel, bamboo flooring to dual-flush toilets, The Macallen Building is something different--a leader in the emerging field of environmentally friendly design. But Boston's steel-toed union workers aren't sure they like it. And when things on the building start to go wrong, the young developer has to keep the project from unraveling.

Funny and poignant, The Greening of Southie is a story of bold ideas, unlikely environmentalists, and the future of urban America. Slated for an Earth Day (April 22) broadcast on Sundance Channel's "The Green," The Greening of Southie is starting now on the festival circuit.

Created by the co-producers and stars of King Corn, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, The Greening of Southie features cinematography by Taylor Gentry, innovative time-lapse animation, and music by Force Theory (Favela Rising, Manda Bala, Jesus Camp).

5The Greening of Southie...Educational and Entertaining!  Dec 08, 2008
By Samantha
This is a great documentary! I heard about the film because I was a fan of King Corn, which is made by the same filmmakers. (Might I also recommend that movie, great flick!) I have seen it a few times now, and every time I learn something new about green construction. Not only is the film educational, but it is really entertaining!

My favorite thing about this documentary is the construction workers, who are funny and smahrt and witty. You can see that the workers that the film focuses on have an epiphany as they work on the green site. They come to really understand how important green construction is.

I would definitely reccommend this film to anyone and everyone. I know people who are using it in classrooms and I know people who just purchased it for their own collection.
